Guidelines to the Use of Wild Birds in Research

Ornithologists study wild birds to fill the need and desire to understand the lives of birds in natural environments. Although some studies of wild birds take place in laboratories and aviaries, a growing number of studies of fundamental scientific issues such as behavioral ecology and ecophysiology are conducted on wild animals under natural conditions, as scientists have come to understand the limitations of laboratory and captive work in those areas.
